Generic Prevacid is also used to take care of GERD or gastro esophageal reflux disease, ulcers of the duodenum caused by H.Pylori infection and erosive esophagitis conditions.
The medicine is used for maintenance therapy in cases of duodenal ulcer to prevent any relapse. Generic Prevacid is also used to cut down on any risk associated with stomach ulcers that has a chance to develop within those taking non steroidal and anti inflammatory medicines like Motrin, Naprosyn and Advil. The medicine is also very effective for the long term treatment of conditions such as the Zollinger-Ellison syndrome which is caused due to excess production of acid.
This medicine belongs to the proton pump inhibitors group of drugs and they work by preventing production of stomach acids leading to a drastic reduction.
Precautions to be taken before and while taking Generic Prevacid
- Your doctor needs to be informed about any allergic tendencies towards any type of foods, preservatives, dyes or medicines.
- You need to keep your doctor posted about pregnancy or if you are planning to become a mother since this drug is classified as pregnancy Category B and can pas through the mother’s milk to the infant.
- Your doctor has to be kept informed about any liver disorders that you maybe suffering from or has suffered in the past including cirrhosis.
- If you are taking any herbal supplements, other medications including any vitamins, do inform your doctor.
- Keep away from alcohol and also inform your doctor about this habit if it is something you take everyday.
- If you miss a dose, do not combine doses. Skip that particular dose and return to your usual routine from the next day,
- Ensure that you observe dosage guidelines to the letter. Generic Prevacid comes in three forms. The Prevacid SoluTab is a delayed-release tablet that dissolves quickly, when you place it on your tongue. It is also available in Delayed-Release capsule and Delayed-Release oral suspension forms.
- Make sure that the medicine is stored at a place that is away from moisture and direct light. Do not refrigerate the syrup form of Generic Prevacid.
- Reduce the intake of caffeine when taking this course.
- It is better to seek your doctor’s advice if you wish to combine this medicine with any of the following medicines such as Ampicillin, Warfarin or Diazepam.
Dosage
The dosage depends on the patient’s condition as well as other factors like the age and the kind of medication that is currently being taken. Generic Prevacid is most effective when taken just prior to meals.
